WOODZ is headed to the big screen.
The singer, whose real name is Cho Seung Youn, has been cast in the upcoming film Nambeol (literal title), production company Hive Media Corp announced on July 23.
Set in the early Joseon era, the hard-boiled martial arts action film follows nine warriors of different backgrounds and abilities as they travel to Tsushima Island to rescue prisoners abducted by Japanese raiders.
Cho will play Cheotnom, a sharpshooter who joins the dangerous mission to support the family he left behind. Driven by a strong sense of responsibility for both his loved ones and his fellow warriors, the character is expected to bring emotional weight to the film’s brutal battlefield action.
Nambeol will mark the directorial debut of acclaimed cinematographer Lee Mo Gae, known for his work on Emergency Declaration, Exhuma, 12.12: The Day and The Good, the Bad, and the Weird.
The film also stars Lee Byung Hun, Go Youn Jung and Lee Do Hyun.
Hive Media Corp, the production company behind Inside Men, The Man Standing Next, Harbin, 12.12: The Day and Disney Plus’s Made in Korea, will produce the project.
Nambeol is currently in preproduction and is expected to begin filming in the second half of the year.
