Go Youn Jung has locked in her next major big-screen role.
The actress is set to star alongside Lee Byung Hun in the upcoming blockbuster Nambeol (literal title), a hard-boiled martial arts action film directed by acclaimed cinematographer Lee Mo Gae.
Set during the early Joseon Dynasty, Nambeol follows a diverse group of warriors who journey to Tsushima Island on a high-stakes mission to rescue prisoners captured by Japanese pirates. The film was already one of the industry’s most anticipated projects after Lee Byung Hun signed on, and Go’s casting has only raised expectations. This will mark her first time sharing the screen with the veteran actor.
While specific details about her character are still under wraps, insiders tease that the role will demand a completely different level of emotional depth compared to her past work. Known for her expressive acting and strong screen presence, Go is expected to show a much grittier, more intense side of herself in this bold genre film.
Nambeol is produced by Hive Media Corp, the powerhouse studio behind a string of massive critical and commercial hits, including Inside Men, The Man Standing Next, Deliver Us From Evil and 12.12: The Day. The movie also reunites Lee Byung Hun with the studio after their successful collaborations on Inside Men and The Man Standing Next.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of Lee Mo Gae, a legendary cinematographer celebrated for his striking visual style in masterpieces like 12.12: The Day, Exhuma, Hunt, Asura: The City of Madness and I Saw the Devil.
Currently in the final stages of pre-production and major casting, the movie is aiming to begin filming in the second half of 2026.
For Go Youn Jung, who has steadily built a diverse filmography across both television and film, this project is widely expected to be a major turning point in her career.
