WOODZ has officially apologized for the recent controversy surrounding the recruitment of unpaid staff for his overseas tour concerts.
On May 8th, WOODZ’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, stated, “We have confirmed the facts with the local concert organizer regarding the matter,” and “We sincerely apologize for not thoroughly reviewing the details beforehand.”
The agency added, “We will closely consult with the local concert organizer regarding any shortcomings in local concert operations to ensure necessary measures are taken.” They also promised to prevent a recurrence by strengthening communication with local partners and conducting more thorough checks to ensure overall concert operations proceed smoothly in the future.
The controversy arose recently when a notice for recruiting staff for WOODZ’s world tour concert in Germany began circulating online. The post, reportedly uploaded by someone claiming to be an acquaintance of a concert staff member, sought individuals to maintain order at the venue and manage booths on the day of the concert.
The issue centered on the proposed working conditions. The notice stated that positions were unpaid, with “meals provided” and a “chance to watch the concert” as compensation. It also mentioned preferential treatment for those proficient in Korean, German and English, as well as those with K-pop concert experience or knowledge of lighting and sound.

Netizens reacted critically, questioning, “How can unpaid volunteers be part of a commercial event?” and “That’s called exploiting.” Others asked, “Would they even be able to watch the concert properly while working?”
Criticism intensified after reports that ticket prices for the German concert were around 420,000 won for VIP and 150,000 won for general admission. Many commented, “They’re charging for tickets but paying zero for labor?”
The person who posted the notice attempted to clarify, stating, “It seems they are recruiting unpaid volunteers in exchange for concert viewing.” They added, “It could be a good opportunity for fans of the artist, so we hope only those interested apply.” However, the note that “translation is paid” further fueled backlash online.
Meanwhile, WOODZ debuted in 2014 with the group UNIQ and later promoted as a member of the project group X1 through Mnet’s Produce X 101. Last year, his song “Drowning” gained significant popularity.
