The legal dispute between actor Hwang Jung Min and a fan who has continued making claims about his personal life is escalating.
Sports Kyunghyang reported on July 29th that Hwang Jung Min filed a criminal complaint against the fan last August, accusing her of stalking and other offenses.
In February, the court issued a summary order fining the fan 3 million won ($2,000). The court had previously recognized the stalking allegations and imposed temporary measures, including a restraining order, against her on three separate occasions.
However, the fan appealed the decision and requested a formal trial, keeping the legal battle ongoing.
The fan has also filed a civil lawsuit seeking damages from Hwang Jung Min. In the complaint submitted to the Seoul Central District Court in February, she claimed that Hwang Jung Min had offered her business and writing opportunities based on their personal relationship, but later ended those arrangements unilaterally.
Amid the ongoing dispute, Plus M Entertainment confirmed on July 29th that Hwang Jung Min’s scheduled audience greeting event for the film Hope will proceed as planned. His upcoming film A Good House to Live In (literal translation), which is scheduled to begin filming next month, will also move forward according to schedule.
Attention is also on Hwang Jung Min’s upcoming appearance on the SBS variety show Whenever Possible.
An SBS representative told TV Daily on July 29th, “There are currently no decisions regarding any changes to the broadcast schedule for Whenever Possible. We will respond based on the facts as they are confirmed.”
Whenever Possible is a variety show that brings unexpected luck and entertainment to people during small moments of free time in their daily lives. Season 5 will premiere on August 11th, with Hwang Jung Min and Jung Ho Yeon appearing as the first guests. The show is hosted by Yoo Yeon Seok and Yu Jae Seok.
The damages lawsuit between actor Hwang Jung Min and the person who posted allegations about his personal life has entered mediation proceedings.
According to legal sources on July 29th, the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Division 42 decided in June to refer the 200 million won ($138,000) damages lawsuit filed by the fan against Hwang Jung Min to mediation.
Star News reported that both sides are scheduled to attend a mediation hearing on August 14th to discuss the possibility of reaching a settlement. Mediation referral is a process in which the parties attempt to resolve their dispute through dialogue before going to trial.
However, as the two sides reportedly still have significant differences in their positions, it remains uncertain whether they will be able to reach an agreement.
