Sung Hoon opened up about the hard-earned lessons forged during a turbulent chapter in both his personal life and career.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel on August 19th, the actor reflected on life while fishing, saying the sport reminded him of how some things remain beyond a person’s control.

“No matter how hard you try, sometimes things just don’t work out,” he said. “As you go through life, difficult things keep happening regardless of what you want.”

Sung Hoon said some problems can be overcome through effort, but there are also situations that neither personal determination nor help from others can fix.

“In those moments, I think sometimes it’s not a bad idea to just let go and allow time to pass,” he said.

Asked how he might live differently if he could return to the past with his current memories intact, Sung Hoon answered, “I think I’d live more wisely and sensibly. I’d enjoy life more and make better, happier use of my time.”

He added that experience had also taught him how to respond when difficulties arise. “I’d know, ‘When something like this happens, this is how I can get through it.’ And when things are going well, I’d remind myself to be careful.”

Sung Hoon was previously a regular cast member on MBC’s I Live Alone, but his television appearances became less frequent following criticism over his behavior on tvN’s The Must-Try Restaurants.

Viewers criticized the actor for appearing irritated while waiting for a table and for shaking sweat off himself while eating. His team later apologized, saying some of his behavior had gone too far in an effort to make the show entertaining.

Sung Hoon has recently returned to engaging with fans through TikTok and YouTube and is set to appear in the upcoming MBN drama What a Boss Wants.
