Yoo Yeon Seok and Lee Se Young may soon be bringing a sweeping historical romance to life.

The two actors are in talks to star in The Princess Covets the Scholar (literal title), a new drama based on the webtoon of the same name. Both have reportedly received scripts and are positively considering the offers, marking what would be their first on-screen pairing.

Set in the Joseon era, the series blends palace intrigue with a classic love story. It follows Princess Eun Myeong, the king’s daughter, who grows up isolated within the rigid rules of court life after losing her mother at a young age. Her world changes when she falls in love at first sight with scholar Kim Seo Yul—and decides to marry him.

But their relationship is far from simple. Long-standing family conflicts and past grievances stand in their way, pulling the two into unexpected power struggles as their romance deepens. The story of a princess and a scholar falling in love against the odds has drawn comparisons to a Joseon-era Romeo and Juliet.

Lee Se Young has been offered the role of Princess Eun Myeong, a lonely but spirited and curious royal. Yoo Yeon Seok is in talks to play Seo Yul, the son of a high-ranking official who is set on pushing her away—an accomplished and admired figure with both looks and intellect.

The project is expected to be directed by What Comes After Love helmer Moon Hyun Sung, with network scheduling still under discussion.

Yoo Yeon Seok is currently appearing in SBS’s Phantom Lawyer and is set to star in MBC’s upcoming series The Perfect Lie. Lee Se Young, meanwhile, is preparing to headline the Disney+ series The Remarried Empress later this year.
