South Korean YouTuber Jangsin has released a recording from an informant who claims to have shared a detention cell with Kim Se Ui, the operator of the controversial right-wing YouTube channel HoverLab.

On May 31st, Jangsin uploaded a video, saying, “A man who spent two or three days in detention with Kim Se Ui contacted me immediately after his release. I decided to make this public because I believed it was in the public interest.”

The recording features the voice of the informant, who identified themselves as a recently released detainee. “I was in the same detention facility as Kim Se Ui for three days,” the informant claimed. “He said the maximum detention period is six months and that if he requests a jury trial, he could be released in about three months.”

The informant went on to allege that Kim was considering a strategic legal move. “He said he would call Kim Sae Ron‘s mother as a witness,” the informant claimed. “The intention is to make the public see Kim Sae Ron’s mother as a perpetrator as well.”

The informant added, “He argued that it made no sense for him to be the only one arrested when several others were involved and said he would eventually get out of it.”

After playing the recording, Jangsin criticized Kim, saying, “If the cellmate’s claims are true, it’s shocking. Isn’t he just calculating how to get out of this by using the jury trial system and the bereaved family?”

Jangsin then invited responses from those involved, adding, “If any of these claims are incorrect, we encourage Kim Se Ui’s side to contact us. We also welcome comments from Kim Sae Ron’s bereaved family.”

This development follows the Seoul Central District Court’s May 26th decision to issue an arrest warrant for Kim Se Ui. He faces multiple charges, including defamation and the distribution of illegally filmed content under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.

However, as the allegations come only from an unverified former cellmate, there is no confirmation that Kim actually made the statements.
