Some familiar K-drama pairings are getting another chance to share the screen.
From Kim So Hyun and Song Kang to Suzy and Kim Seon Ho, actors who previously won viewers over with their romantic chemistry are reuniting in new projects, in some cases nearly a decade after they last worked together.
Kim So Hyun and Song Kang
Kim So Hyun and Song Kang are reuniting five years after Netflix’s Love Alarm for MBC’s upcoming drama White Scandal (literal title).
Based on a webtoon, the romance follows Dan Yi Hyuk (Song), a third-generation chaebol and actor who wants nothing to do with becoming his family’s heir, and Ji Eun Seol (Kim), a fallen former child star. The two enter a fake relationship and gradually help each other confront wounds from their past.
Their reunion has drawn particular interest because their characters did not ultimately end up together in Love Alarm. Song recently reflected on working with Kim again during his appearance on the YouTube show Salon Drip, joking that while she was already famous when they first met and he was still a rookie, he has “become a bit more famous too.”
Moon Ga Young and Cha Eun Woo
A reunion fans have long hoped for may also be on the way.
Moon Ga Young and Cha Eun Woo, who starred together in tvN’s True Beauty in 2020, are both considering roles in the upcoming romance Seorabeol Life (literal title), a new food-themed drama from Bon Appétit, Your Majesty director Jang Tae Yoo.
True Beauty had helped boost both stars’ global profiles and has remained a strong international performer, ranking among Netflix’s 10 most-watched Korean dramas since 2023.
The possibility carries added interest after Moon signed with Fantagio, Cha’s agency, in July. Cha is currently serving in the military, and the project could potentially become one of his post-discharge dramas.
Joy and Choo Young Woo
Red Velvet’s Joy and Choo Young Woo are reuniting in a different format four years after playing a young couple in the 2022 drama Once Upon a Small Town.
This time, the two are lending their voices to the Korean dub of animated fantasy adventure Stitch Head, marking the first voice-acting project for both stars. Joy voices the curious human girl Arabella, while Choo plays Stitch Head, a little monster longing to be loved.
The film opens September 30th.
Seo Hyun Jin and Yoo Yeon Seok
Seo Hyun Jin and Yoo Yeon Seok are sharing the screen again nearly 10 years after Dr. Romantic, where they played doctors Yoon Seo Jung and Kang Dong Joo.
Their new MBC psychological thriller The Perfect Lie, set to premiere in October, puts them in a dramatically different relationship. The story centers on a man and woman who give completely opposing accounts of the same memory, with a recently released teaser showing the two accusing each other of lying in an interrogation room.
After playing colleagues who fell in love in Dr. Romantic, their new adversarial dynamic offers a sharp contrast to their previous pairing.
Suzy and Kim Seon Ho
Suzy and Kim Seon Ho will reunite six years after tvN’s Start-Up in Disney Plus’ Portraits of Delusion.
In Start-Up, Suzy’s Seo Dal Mi ultimately ended up with Nam Do San (Nam Joo Hyuk), while Kim’s Han Ji Pyeong became the other side of the drama’s much-discussed love triangle.
Their reunion takes them into an entirely different world. Set in 1935 Gyeongseong, Portraits of Delusion follows painter Lee Ho, who is commissioned to paint a portrait of the mysterious Song Jeong Hwa, a captivating woman who has lived secluded from the world for more than half a century.
With former romantic partners, unrequited loves and fan-favorite pairings all meeting again in dramatically different roles, the upcoming projects will offer viewers a chance to see how their chemistry has evolved years later.
