Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin are reuniting on screen for the first time in a decade in MBC’s upcoming psychological thriller The Perfect Lie, which has set an October 30th premiere.
The series follows a man and woman who give completely opposing accounts of the same memory, setting them on a tense collision course as they each pursue what they believe to be the truth. You and Everything Else helmer Jo Young Min directs from a screenplay by Baek Jae Young.
MBC also released photos from the show’s first table read, attended by Yoo, Seo and co-stars Ok Ja Yeon, Im Seong Jae, Kim Ji Hyun and Lee Chun Hee.
Yoo stars as Min Joon Ho, a respected cardiac surgeon and single father who is cool and composed in the operating room but warm with his only son. Seo plays Kang Ji Sun, an elementary school librarian whose life becomes entangled with Joon Ho after what initially appears to be a perfect date takes an unexpected turn.
The project marks Yoo and Seo’s first drama together in about 10 years. The two previously starred as doctors Kang Dong Joo and Yoon Seo Jung in the hit series Dr. Romantic, where their characters developed from colleagues into lovers. The Perfect Lie puts them in a very different dynamic, with the pair locked in a psychological battle over whose version of events is true.
The supporting cast includes Ok as detective Lee Hwa Young; Im as her husband Park Seok Gu, a UDT officer; Kim as Ji Sun’s older sister Kang Ji Eun, an anesthesiologist; and Lee as Kim Hyung Soo, Ji Sun’s brother-in-law.
Photos from the table read offer an early glimpse at the ensemble, with Yoo and Seo shifting from their former romantic chemistry into the increasingly adversarial relationship at the center of the thriller.
The Perfect Lie premieres October 30th at 9:50 PM KST on MBC.
