Koo Kyo Hwan and Han Ji Min are set to lead the upcoming disaster comedy Typhoon (working title), which has officially begun production.
The film also stars Oh Jung Se, Han Sun Hwa, Kim Eung Su, Oh Min Ae, Kim Yo Han and Choi Ji Su, rounding out an ensemble cast.
Typhoon follows Jin Mo (played by Koo Kyo Hwa) and Jae Yi (Han Ji Min), a married couple who have decided to separate but find themselves trapped together when a massive typhoon hits during a family wedding in Jin Mo’s hometown.
Koo plays Jin Mo, a small-town native who graduated from a prestigious university and landed a job at a major corporation, only to find himself stuck at the assistant-manager level years later. The role marks a more grounded turn for the actor as an ordinary husband and father caught in an increasingly extraordinary situation.
Han stars as Jae Yi, who once had a promising career at a publishing company but quit after struggling to balance work and childcare. She is now hoping to reinvent herself as a YouTuber, and her knowledge of practical life hacks unexpectedly proves useful as the disaster unfolds.
Oh Jung Se plays Sang Hyuk, Jin Mo’s longtime hometown friend and a rescue worker who rushes in to help the couple, only to become stranded with them.
Han Sun Hwa takes on the role of Rose, the owner of a guesthouse who refuses to offer discounts even as the storm closes in, while still harboring an unapologetically romantic streak.
Kim Eung Soo and Oh Min Ae play Hyun Deok and Pil Ja, a couple of 48 years who travel around the country in a camper van. Kim Yo Han and Choi Ji Su appear as Dae Han and Cha Young, an engaged couple who believe their own marriage will be different from everyone else’s.
The film is written and directed by Lee Jung Ho, whose credits include The Beast and Broken.
A cast script reading was held in late September, with principal photography getting underway in October.
Typhoon is currently slated for release next year.
