Park Ji Hoon’s transformation into a boxer will no longer be happening.

MyDaily reported on May 21st that Park Ji Hoon has officially declined the offer to star in the upcoming tvN drama Promoter (literal title).

Park Ji Hoon had previously been in talks to play Jang Jeong Gu, a WBC light flyweight boxer in the series. The character is a gifted fighter who repeatedly faces disqualification just before victory, and fans were especially looking forward to Park Ji Hoon’s potential transformation for the role, including his use of the Busan dialect and intense boxer image.

However, the casting ultimately fell through, and the production team is now expected to restart the casting process.

Promoter is a human sports drama centered on Shim Young Ja, the world’s first female boxing promoter, and boxer Jang Jeong Gu. The series follows their emotional journey toward becoming world champions as they support and encourage one another through hardships and setbacks.

Following the decision, Park Ji Hoon will focus on his Asia fan concert tour RE:FLECT. The tour will kick off in Tokyo on August 29th and continue across 11 cities in 10 countries, including Seoul, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia.

Earlier this year, Park Ji Hoon starred in the film The King’s Warden, which attracted more than 16 million moviegoers nationwide. He also won two trophies at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards, including Best New Actor in the film category.
