WINNER’s Mino has received a two-year suspended prison sentence for violating South Korea’s military service laws.

The Seoul Western District Court held a sentencing hearing for Mino and another defendant, identified as A, on October 1. Both were indicted on charges of violating the Military Service Act.

The court sentenced Song to one year in prison, suspended for two years. A was sentenced to 10 months in prison, also suspended for two years.

There had been speculation about whether Song could be required to serve his military duty again or face prison time. However, the court handed down a suspended sentence rather than ordering him to reenlist.

During the final hearing in April, prosecutors had requested a one-year-and-six-month prison sentence for Song. They requested a one-year prison sentence for A, who was also indicted in the case.

Song was accused of neglecting his duties while serving as a social service worker, an alternative form of mandatory military service in South Korea. Prosecutors alleged that he colluded with A, who was responsible for overseeing his service, to take 102 unauthorized days off.

According to the indictment, the alleged misconduct took place between May 30, 2023, and December 2, 2024, while Song was assigned to the Mapo District Facility Management Corporation and local community welfare facilities.
