Mino is facing a potential prison sentence following his first court appearance in a military service case.
Prosecutors have requested an 18-month prison term for the WINNER member, who has been indicted on charges of violating South Korea’s Military Service Act.
The Seoul Western District Court held its first hearing on April 21st, where Mino appeared alongside a supervisor accused of failing to properly oversee his service. During the hearing, Mino admitted to all charges.
According to prosecutors, Mino served as a public service worker from March 2023 to December 2024 at a facility in Mapo District. He is accused of repeatedly neglecting his duties, including failing to report to work.
The case was initially referred for investigation by the Military Manpower Administration, with police forwarding it to prosecutors in May of last year. Further investigation—including phone forensics and GPS tracking—reportedly uncovered additional instances of unauthorized absence.
The indictment states that out of 430 required working days, Mino was absent without permission for 102 days—nearly a quarter of his service period.
Appearing in court in a black suit, Song Min Ho told reporters, “I deeply regret my actions and will approach the trial sincerely. I’m sorry for disappointing so many people.”
Still, his pledge to “approach the trial sincerely” has drawn sharp criticism, with many pointing out the contrast between his words now and the alleged lack of diligence during his military service.
