Park Ji Hyun has become the first Korean actress to be nominated for Best Performance by an Actress at the International Emmy Awards.
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 54th International Emmy Awards on September 23rd, with Park earning a nod for her performance as Sang Yeon in Netflix series You and Everything Else.
She is nominated alongside Mona Mona Mina Leon of Belgium’s Holy Sh!t, Bárbara Mori of Mexico’s Lucca’s World and Sheridan Smith of the U.K.’s I Fought the Law.
Released last September, You and Everything Else follows the complicated relationship between longtime friends Eun Jung (played by Kim Go Eun) and Sang Yeon (Park Ji Hyun) from their teenage years through their 40s, eventually tackling the subject of assisted dying.
South Korea also earned a nomination in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category with Disney Plus series Hyper Knife, starring Park Eun Bin and Sul Kyung Gu. It will compete against Spain’s The Anatomy of a Moment, Brazil’s Oxygen Masks Will Not Drop Down Automatically and the U.K.’s Prisoner 951.
The winners will be announced at the 54th International Emmy Awards Gala in New York on November 23rd. The awards recognize television programming and performances produced outside the United States.
Korea previously made history at the awards in 2022, when KBS drama The King’s Affection became the first Korean drama to win an International Emmy. Last year, Netflix series Chicken Nugget, based on the webtoon of the same name, was nominated in the Comedy category but did not take home the award.
