Yamada Ria, a Japanese dancer who appeared on Mnet’s Street Dance Girls Fighter 2, has passed away at the age of 16 after battling an illness.
Yamada Ria’s family shared a message on her Instagram account on September 24th, announcing the tragic news. “It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ria on September 18th,” the family wrote.
“Ria endured every day with incredible strength during her battle with illness for over a year,” the family continued. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported Ria and sent her love and encouragement.”
They further shared, “Ria loved to dance. She cherished the bonds she formed with her friends through dance and with everyone who watched and supported her journey.” The family added, “Thank you for dancing with Ria, sharing moments of joy, and cheering her on.”
Yamada Ria was a promising dancer from Japan, gaining recognition after winning various competitions. She rose to prominence among Korean viewers after participating as part of the crew Jam Republic and winning Mnet’s Street Dance Girls Fighter 2 in 2023.
However, she revealed last year that she was undergoing treatment for an autoimmune disease and had been focusing on her recovery.
