Jay Park and UFC fighter Brian Ortega have reunited six years after Ortega famously slapped Park.
Ortega shared a photo of the two together on social media on September 28th, writing, “Squashed it. All respect,” along with South Korean and Mexican flag emojis.
Ortega has his arm around Park’s shoulder as they smile at the camera in the photo.
Park commented on the post, saying, “It’s all cleared up. Those who know, know. Respect. As I said, I was always a fan. T-City!”
The incident happened in March 2020 at UFC 248 in Las Vegas. Park was interpreting for his friend, UFC fighter Chan Sung Jung, also known as “The Korean Zombie,” when Ortega confronted him.
Ortega had misunderstood something Park said while translating and slapped him.
Park later explained on MBC’s Radio Star that he had actually softened Jung’s comments while translating them, but Ortega misunderstood them as an attempt to provoke him. Park said the slap dislocated his jaw and made it difficult for him to bite down properly for about a month.
Ortega later apologized and said, “I’ve spoken with Chan Sung Jung and Jay Park. It’s all over. It was my fault to lay a hand on anyone.”
Now, six years after the incident, the two have put the past behind them and reunited with a photo showing that they have made peace.
