Four Hands, Two Sonatas is gaining momentum after just two episodes.
The tvN weekend drama rose to a nationwide rating of 5.9% for its August 30th episode, according to Nielsen Korea, up from 3.4% for the premiere.
The series has also been gaining traction internationally, ranking in the top 10 across 23 countries and regions.
Episode 2 focused on Kang Bi O (played by Song Kang) and Choi Jung Yo (Lee Jun Young) beginning to understand each other’s emotional scars as their tense relationship slowly turned into something closer.
After Jung Yo is bullied by a group of troublemakers, Bi O submits convenience store CCTV footage to the school, helping him avoid expulsion. But when the incident casts doubt over the school’s scholarship selection process, their piano teacher Do Hyun Soo (Kim Ju Hun) pairs them for a four-hands performance at Korea Arts High School’s regular concert.
The two continue to clash during rehearsals, but gradually begin opening up after repeatedly helping each other through difficult moments.
Bi O eventually learns that Jung Yo suffers from stage fright rooted in past trauma and decides to help him work through it. He fills a small auditorium with candles and begins training Jung Yo to get comfortable performing onstage again.
The elaborate gesture did not go unnoticed by viewers.
“He wouldn’t even do this for a girlfriend,” one viewer joked. “You’re telling me this rich kid set up 102,928 candles one by one just to help another guy get over his stage fright?”

Bi O later takes Jung Yo busking in a public square and encourages him to “focus only on your own sound.” Jung Yo slowly begins to push past his fear, and after the performance, the two exchange wide smiles.
Their growing chemistry also sparked another playful reaction online: “How much longer are we supposed to pretend we don’t see what’s going on with these two?”
