Song Kang and Lee Jun Young have shared behind-the-scenes stories from filming their new drama Four Hands Two Sonatas.
A press conference for tvN’s upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama Four Hands Two Sonatas was held online on August 25th. The event was pre-recorded because Lee Jun Young enlisted in the military on July 21st. Song Kang, Lee Jun Young, Jang Gyu Ri and director Park Hyun Suk attended the event.
Song Kang plays Kang Bi Oh, a talented and hardworking pianist who practices for 10 hours a day. Talking about working with Lee Jun Young, Song Kang said, “Every moment with Lee Jun Young was great.” However, the two actors had plenty of awkward moments while filming scenes together at the same piano.
“There were many scenes where we had to play the piano on the same bench. It was fun and warm, but also uncomfortable. Lee Jun Young isn’t a small person,” Song Kang joked.
Lee Jun Young agreed, saying, “It was a little cramped. Song Kang has a great physique. Whenever we filmed together, he looked like he had just finished working out.” He added that the two were able to break the awkwardness through these moments.
Lee Jun Young plays Choi Jung Yo, a rising pianist who suddenly appears on the scene. When asked how he prepared for the role, he jokingly said, “I’m a little more mature-looking than the three people here, so I paid a lot of attention to skincare.” Lee Jun Young was born in 1997, while Song Kang was born in 1994.
Lee Jun Young said, “But there are some things you just can’t change through effort. Fortunately, the director cast my co-stars in a way that made me feel less self-conscious, so I focused on doing my best as an actor.”
He also shared how he prepared for his role as a pianist. “I couldn’t practice the piano as much as Song Kang. I tried to practice whenever I had free time. On my days off, I spent a lot of time listening to classical music. I honestly didn’t know much about it before. I knew nothing about what classical pieces were out there or which instruments they focused on, but through this project, I was able to discover those things. In many ways, it gave me a lot of inspiration and had a positive influence on me.”
He added, “As you’ll see in the drama, my character undergoes a transformation, so I hope you’ll look forward to that as well.”
Four Hands Two Sonatas premieres August 29th.
