Lee Jun Young officially began his mandatory military service today after bidding fans a brave and calm farewell on social media.
The actor and singer quietly entered an Army Training Center on the morning of July 21st, where he will undergo basic training before serving as an active-duty soldier. To ensure safety and prevent potential overcrowding, his agency, Billion’s, announced that his enlistment was conducted privately without any formal public event.

Lee drew fans’ attention by sharing photos of himself shaving his head on social media ahead of his arrival at the training facility. The post followed a heartfelt, handwritten letter he shared last month to break the news directly to his followers.
“I wanted to tell you myself, so I decided to leave this message,” Lee wrote, sharing his thoughts ahead of his enlistment. “Before I knew my enlistment date, I kept thinking, ‘It’s no big deal. I’m just enlisting.’ But once the date was set, I found myself thinking about it a lot.”
He added, “I’ll return safely and in good health. I hope you all stay healthy and spend your days happily and meaningfully until the day we meet again. Thank you for your love and support.”
Lee also left a witty parting message through his agency just before enlisting: “Merry Christmas in advance, and Happy New Year… twice!”
The actor maintained a packed schedule right up to his enlistment date. He recently starred in the JTBC drama Reborn Rookie, which wrapped up on July 5th. His dual performance as Hwang Joon Hyun and Chairman Kang Yong Ho helped push the show to its highest viewership ratings.
Fans won’t have to wait long to see him back on screen. Before enlisting, Lee finished filming the upcoming tvN weekend drama Four Hands, an arts high school coming-of-age story in which he stars alongside Song Kang as music prodigy Choi Jung Yo. The series is set to premiere on August 29th, giving audiences a chance to enjoy his latest work while he completes his service.
