Lee Jun Young is looking back on the terrifying night he helped police catch a drunk driver.
On the July 8 episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, the actor shared the story of how he once reported a drunk driver, then ended up following the car for nearly an hour.
“At first, I was just going to report it and go home,” Lee said after Yoo Jae Suk asked if he really followed the car for an hour.
But police asked him to keep tailing the vehicle. “I thought, instead of them crashing into another car, they might as well hit mine,” Lee said.
As the car moved through different neighborhoods, the case kept shifting between police jurisdictions. “Every time we entered another area, they kept asking me to follow for just a little longer,” he recalled.
Lee also revealed he was on the phone with his agency CEO at the time. “I said, ‘Hyung, I have something I need to do for a second,’ and hung up,” he said, drawing laughs as he added that his confused CEO kept calling him back.
Lee was later offered a commendation and reward, but turned them down. “There are so many brave citizens doing things where no one sees them,” he said. “I didn’t think I should be the one to represent them.”
Still, Lee admitted he was scared the entire time. “Honestly, I kept thinking, ‘Should I just go home now?'” he said. “I was so scared. I was really scared.”
Yoo Jae Suk praised his courage, saying, “Of course it was scary. You never know what could happen while chasing a car.”
