Song Kang is stepping into the world of classical music as Kang Bio, a pianist whose genius is built on relentless effort, in Four Hands, Two Sonatas.
tvN’s new weekend drama Four Hands, Two Sonatas, premiering Aug. 29, follows the friendship, romance, rivalry and growth of young musicians who meet at an arts high school filled with musical prodigies.
Song plays Kang Bio, a perfectionist who never falls from the top ranks in either academics or piano. Blessed with natural talent and willingness to practice harder than anyone else, Bio is already recognized at 17 by leading figures in the classical music world as a next-generation pianist who could shape Korea’s classical scene.
But even Kang Bio, who seems to have everyone’s admiration, has one thing missing. He has never once been acknowledged or praised by his grandfather, a world-renowned conductor. His desperate desire to earn that approval becomes the driving force that keeps him pushing forward.
Bio’s piano-focused life begins to shift when transfer student Choi Jeong Yo, played by Lee Jun Young, enters the picture. Jeong Yo surpasses everything Bio has spent years building, forcing him to face a wall he cannot easily overcome while also opening the door to a world he never knew.
Bio’s practice log shows just how hard he pushes himself. After spending a staggering 9 hours and 30 minutes practicing piano, he leaves himself a note: “The cadenza is a mess. From the top, again.” It captures the obsession of a perfectionist who is never satisfied with himself.
Four Hands, Two Sonatas teases the intense coming-of-age story of a pianist who never stops training for the perfect performance. The drama premieres Aug. 29 at 9:10 PM KST.
