Netflix has greenlit Korean noir action series The Shooter (working title), starring Lee Jung Eun, Kim Mu Yeol and Huh Joon Ho alongside Choi Sung Eun, Bae Na Ra, Seo Hyun Woo and Moon Jong Won.
The series centers on Jung Sook Ja (Lee), a woman in her 70s whose ordinary life is shattered when the grandson she raised alone is mysteriously attacked and left fighting for his life. Convinced that criminal organization Cheonghwa Group is connected to the attack, she picks up a gun for the first time in decades and sets out for revenge.
Kim plays Seo Yeon Woo, the mysterious strategist who approaches Sook Ja with information linking her grandson’s attack to Cheonghwa Group. Armed with sharp instincts and an extensive information network, he helps plan her revenge while appearing to harbor motives of his own.
The project reunites Lee and Kim four years after Netflix’s Juvenile Justice and marks Lee’s first action-heavy role. Her recent credits include My Daughter Is a Zombie, Miss Night and Day and A Bloody Lucky Day.
Huh Joon Ho will play Jang Gwang Cheol, the former head of the Heukseong gang who now serves as chairman of Cheonghwa Group.
Choi Sung Eun joins as Shin Ji Hyun, head of the organization’s China branch and a director of its third enforcement team, while Bae Na Ra plays Cheon Tae Seok, Cheonghwa Group’s chief secretary and director of its second enforcement team. Seo Hyun Woo will portray Yoo Il Goo, the group’s black sheep and director of its fourth enforcement team.
Moon Jong Won rounds out the cast as Eom Sang Pil, the owner of a guesthouse who is hiding a mysterious past.
The Shooter will be directed by Lee Kwon, who previously helmed the action thriller A Shop for Killers. The series will follow Sook Ja and Yeon Woo’s uneasy partnership as they pursue Cheonghwa Group and uncover the secrets surrounding the criminal organization.
Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date.
