Jung Hae In might be in a sticker situation than the one in his newest Netflix Drama Our Sticky Love due to the fans finding major problems with the premise of the story line.
Set to release on August 7th, the Netflix series recently dropped the teaser for the next big emotional love story starring Jung Hae In and Ha Young. The series follows Go Eun Sae (Ha Young), a prosecutor who loses her memory, and boxing coach Jang Tae Ha (Jung Hae In), who suddenly appears claiming to be her boyfriend.
Go Eun Sae finds herself in an unfamiliar hospital with no memory. Suddenly, she is confronted by Tae Ha, who insists he’s her boyfriend, but almost everything about her new surroundings feels strange. She isn’t exactly convinced by Tae Ha’s story, however, his gentle affection slowly begins to get through to her. Can she really be tricked into falling in love?
Upon a first glimpse of the problematic story, fans immediately respond with disgust for this “almost-pedophilic” story. “Is this for real? He is gaslighting someone into a relationship?” Fans continued to flood Twitter with criticism saying, “When she loses her memory he deceives her and tries to be her lover. How romantic, not creepy at all yayyyy,” and “How is emotionally manipulating someone who has amnesia considered romance? That’s weird!!!”
Fans also commented on the dialogue between the two characters for being also predatorial and insinuating circumstances similar to Stockholm syndrome. “We can’t get caught, no matter what,” is the final line Tae Ha uses to build suspense and raise climactic suspicion for Go Eun Sae’s newfound relationship but fans argued it sounds more like a killer akin to Lovely Bones stating, “Doesn’t that sound more like the beginning of a psychological thriller?”
Fans also felt that Jung Hae In’s recently open support for the return of Kim Soo Hyun, who was also labeled a predator after his alarming case regarding an underage relationship with the now deceased Kim Sae Ron, as uncomfortable to watch. Director Kim Jang Han still promoted the rom-com as charming while describing the series as “a warm, easygoing romantic comedy,” adding that it follows two people building a love that becomes as impossible to pull apart as sticky taffy.
