YouTuber Potato Turtle has apologized after facing backlash for visiting Jennie’s agency unannounced in hopes of meeting the BLACKPINK star.
On July 14, Potato Turtle posted a statement saying, “I sincerely apologize to everyone who was bothered by my recent video. I have read every comment and am deeply reflecting on my careless behavior.”
The video was part of a series in which the creator attempts 100 bucket-list goals, ranging from seeing the Northern Lights in Iceland to having coffee with Jennie.
“I wanted to challenge something that seemed impossible and find my own way to knock on that door,” Potato Turtle explained. “Of course, I never truly thought that visiting her company or attending her concert would actually lead to coffee with Jennie.”
The YouTuber said the idea was inspired by overseas videos in which creators publicly reach out to celebrities, but admitted the approach was misguided.
In the now-private video, Potato Turtle visited OA Entertainment, rang the doorbell without an appointment and left a letter and flowers. The creator also attended Jennie’s concert holding a sign that read, “Jennie, want to grab coffee?”
The clip drew heavy criticism, with viewers saying that showing up at an artist’s private workplace without warning could feel threatening and was no different from sasaeng behavior.
“I didn’t realize that visiting her company without notice and delivering a letter and flowers could be seen that way,” Potato Turtle wrote. “I wanted to express my sincerity, but the way I went about it was wrong.”
The YouTuber also apologized for holding up the sign at the concert, saying it was their first time attending one and they did not understand proper concert etiquette.
Potato Turtle denied claims that the stunt was only for views.
“It is absolutely not true that I used Jennie for content,” the statement read. “I simply wanted to express my sincerity as a fan. I hope it doesn’t get completely overshadowed by my poor judgment.”
