
Hope is heading into opening day with a commanding lead at the Korean box office.
As of 12:13 AM on July 15th KST, the film had sold 592,855 advance tickets nationwide, taking a 68.1% share of all reservations, according to the Korean Film Council. Presale revenue reached 7.15 billion won ($4.8 million), while the film held the No. 1 presale spot for an 11th straight day.
In Seoul alone, Hope led with 228,429 advance tickets and a 62.2% share. Total nationwide reservations stood at 870,252 tickets, up 197.2% from 292,808 the previous Wednesday.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set for release July 29th, ranked No. 2 with 1.39 billion won ($935,431) in presale revenue.
Minions & Monsters, opening July 15th, came in third with 564.6 million won ($380,000), followed by The Odyssey in fourth with 732.4 million won ahead of its August 5 release.
Moana, released July 8th, rounded out the top five with 167.8 million won ($113,000) in presale revenue.
Among Korean films already in theaters, Shin Mina’s The Eyes ranked sixth with a 1.3% reservation share, 10,952 advance tickets and 105.2 million won ($70,810) in presale revenue. The film has drawn 1.33 million moviegoers and grossed 13.64 billion won ($9.2 million) to date.
Colony, released May 21, came in ninth with a 0.6% share, 5,349 advance tickets and 65 million won ($43,751) in presale revenue. Its cumulative audience has reached 5.93 million, with total box office revenue of 62.39 billion won ($42 million).
