Kim Soo Hyun appears to be testing the waters for a return, starting with a new ad campaign for a Philippine fashion brand BENCH. Whether he can make an acting comeback, however, remains uncertain.
Industry opinion is split. Some believe Kim could return if he is fully cleared of the allegations surrounding him, especially as Kim Se Ui of YouTube channel “HoverLab” faces prosecution. Others say the damage to Kim’s image may make it difficult for him to resume his career at the same level.
“If he is completely cleared, I believe he can return to acting,” one production executive said. “If there is a role he can handle well, offers will come. Production companies have recently been sending scripts to his agency.”
“There will be projects that need an actor of his caliber, so a comeback is possible,” another insider said. “But he will have to choose his projects carefully and deliver even stronger performances to prove that he is still an indispensable actor.”
Others were more skeptical, citing the public fallout from reports about his relationship with the late Kim Sae Ron and the release of private letters and photos.
“So much personal information has been exposed that viewers may struggle to see only the character,” one management insider said. “Romance projects, in particular, may be reluctant to cast him.”
The delayed release of Disney+’s Knock-Off could also shape his future. Producers noted that global streaming deals are now essential, and the controversy may make platforms cautious.
“If ‘Knock-Off’ is released and becomes a hit, confidence in Kim Soo Hyun could recover, and the industry may begin casting him again” one executive said. “Whether the series is released — and whether it succeeds — could decide the future of his acting career.”
