SM Entertainment has confirmed that all current members of NCT 127‘s core Seoul-based sub-unit have officially renewed their contracts, ensuring the group will continue its journey together.
On July 15, SM Entertainment announced, “We are pleased to share that Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo and Haechan have all renewed their contracts with SM Entertainment, built on a foundation of strong teamwork and deep mutual trust.”
The agency added, “Since debuting on July 7, 2016, NCT 127 has established themselves as a leading force in K-pop over the past decade, thanks to the passionate love and support of their fans. We are fully committed to supporting NCT 127’s future promotions as a reliable partner.”
The mass contract renewal brings much-needed stability to the group following a series of high-profile roster changes. Earlier this year on April 8, longtime member Mark ended his exclusive contract with SM Entertainment, subsequently wrapping up all activities with NCT. Following his exit, NCT 127 reorganized as a seven-member lineup.
The group also saw the departure of Winwin, who officially terminated his contract with SM on July 9 after extensive discussions. Winwin’s exit marked the second major departure from the agency and the overall NCT brand this year.
Meanwhile, former member Taeil also ended his exclusive contract with SM in April. However, unlike Mark and Winwin, Taeil has arranged to continue promoting with both NCT and its China-based unit, WayV, even without being signed to the agency.
As NCT 127 approaches its landmark 10th anniversary, the group is forging ahead despite these changes and temporary hiatuses due to mandatory South Korean military service. The decision of all seven current members to renew their contracts effectively clears up any uncertainty regarding the sub-unit’s future.
The members who are not currently serving in the military—Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Jaehyun and Haechan—are currently preparing for the group’s highly anticipated seventh studio album, set to drop on August 24. NCT 127 will follow up the release by kicking off their fifth world tour, starting with a massive launch in Seoul this September.
