Nana expressed her anger directly toward the man accused of robbing and assaulting her during a court hearing today. On the afternoon of April 21st, the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court held the trial for the individual who has been indicted on charges of robbery and assault.

Nana attended the trial as a witness and immediately confronted the man upon entering the courtroom. “Is this funny to you? Look at me,” she demanded. The judge quickly intervened at that point and instructed her to take her seat.

The court acknowledged her distress while attempting to maintain order. “We understand your feelings, but the trial cannot proceed smoothly if you are in a state of agitation,” the judge stated. Nana responded, “It’s impossible not to be agitated,” though she eventually regained her composure to allow the proceedings to continue.

Nana recounted the terrifying details of the home invasion during her testimony. “I heard my mother’s groans and a man’s breathing,” she recalled. “I sensed immediate danger upon hearing those sounds, so I approached as cautiously as possible. When I saw what was happening, I became very agitated and knew I had to separate my mother from him right away.”

She described the life-or-death struggle that followed in the living room. “I never imagined there would be a knife, and I knew I had to take it away,” she revealed. “I believed he could do anything to my mother since he was armed, so I defended myself instinctively.”

The physical struggle resulted in injuries to the man before he was subdued. “He was bleeding from his neck from the knife I wielded, and he said to me, ‘I was wrong, I’m sorry, please don’t kill me,'” Nana explained. “I thought I needed to calm him down, and I wanted to hear what he was up to. I still believed that entering someone’s house with a knife was a lethal act even after hearing him out, so I silently mouthed to my mother to call the police.”

Nana shed tears while listening to her mother’s testimony. Her mother explained that she went into the living room after hearing their pet dog bark, where she encountered a complete stranger entering through the balcony.

“When I went to the balcony, he was coming in with a knife in his right hand,” she recalled. “I tried to close the door and block him from entering, but he forced his way in.”

She testified that the man then began to choke her. “He grabbed me by the neck,” she said. When asked what she was thinking during the assault, she replied, “I only thought about my daughter in the other room.”

She added that she has no memory of the moment Nana entered. “I was almost unconscious. When I came to, my daughter was beside me.” She also noted that she did not see Nana pick up the knife because she had already fainted.

Describing the aftermath, she said, “The three of us were holding onto the knife together. It wasn’t a situation where we could physically fight. We were just trying to stop him.”

She confirmed she is still recovering from the ordeal. “I am still receiving physical therapy. My health has improved a lot with treatment,” she added.

The man is accused of breaking into Nana’s home in Guri City on November 15th of last year. He allegedly threatened her with a weapon, demanded money and caused physical injuries.

Nana and her mother successfully subdued the man during the struggle. In a controversial move, the attacker later counter-sued Nana for attempted murder. However, police determined her actions were a clear case of self-defense and declined to move forward with his claims. Nana has since filed a separate lawsuit against the man for defamation of character.

The court had to issue a renewed summons to compel their attendance today. Nana and her mother had previously submitted notices of absence, but the court deemed their testimony essential for the trial.
