Nana has sought not to appear in court as a witness in the trial of a man accused of breaking into her home and committing robbery and assault.

According to Star News, Nana’s legal representative submitted a request on the 20th to the Uijeongbu District Court, stating that she would not attend the trial as a witness in the case against a man in his 30s, identified as A, who faces charges of robbery and injury.

At the first hearing held on January 20th at the Uijeongbu District Court, A admitted to entering Nana’s home using a ladder but denied that he intended to commit robbery. “I acknowledge that I broke in using a ladder, but I did not go there with the purpose of robbery,” he said, claiming instead that he entered with the intent to commit a simple theft after seeing an open balcony window.

A also claimed he did not know the residence belonged to Nana and insisted he was not carrying a weapon when he entered. He further alleged that during the confrontation inside the home with Nana and her mother, he was the one being resisted against. “Nana suddenly rushed at me and stabbed me with a weapon,” he said.

Continuing his testimony, A claimed he did not strangle Nana’s mother. “I am tall, so I stood next to her and grabbed her shoulder, not her neck,” he said, adding that he did not physically fight Nana. “After the situation was already over between me and her mother, Nana suddenly came at me and stabbed me in the neck with a knife,” he alleged.

The presiding judge challenged his account, asking, “If you put yourself in their position—someone breaks into your home at dawn and does that—would you just stay still?” A ultimately acknowledged that point.

In essence, A’s argument was that he only intended theft and questioned why he ended up being injured. During questioning, he also acknowledged that the victim’s response may have been unavoidable.

Separately, the court noted that A is currently facing another trial at the Incheon District Court’s Bucheon branch related to insurance fraud. A explained that the case dates back to 2020 and that he has been unable to contact two witnesses needed for testimony.
