April is shaping up to be a rare, star-powered showdown in Korean dramas—with IU, Kim Go Eun, and Go Youn Jung all returning at the same time.
Each actress is leading a new series on a different platform, bringing completely distinct characters and tones to the screen.
IU is first out of the gate with MBC’s Perfect Crown, premiering April 10th. Set in a modern constitutional monarchy, the drama explores romance and power struggles shaped by class divides. IU plays Seong Hee Joo, a chaebol heiress with commoner status—a character driven by ambition and unapologetic desire.
The project also marks a bold shift for IU, who steps away from her typically lyrical image to take on a more intense, desire-driven role. Written by rising screenwriter Yoo Ji Won, whose script won unanimous approval in MBC’s drama competition, the series has already generated buzz, especially with Byeon Woo Seok as her co-star.

Just days later, on April 13th, Kim Go Eun returns with Yumi’s Cells 3 on TVING. Known for its unique blend of live-action and 3D animation, the hit series has built a loyal fanbase through its first two seasons.
In the new season, Kim Go Eun dives deeper into Yumi’s emotional growth, portraying the subtle shifts of life, love, and self-discovery in her 30s. Backed by the writing team led by Song Jae Jung, known for their delicate, detailed approach, the series is widely seen as the most stable contender—a proven favorite with both critics and audiences.

Then, on April 18th, Go Youn Jung steps into a very different space with JTBC’s We Are All Trying Here. The drama follows individuals grappling with jealousy, insecurity, and the search for inner peace, with Go Youn Jung playing a young woman struggling to survive in the competitive film industry.
The series comes from acclaimed writer Park Hae Young, known for My Mister and My Liberation Notes, and her signature style—deeply introspective, emotionally raw, and quietly comforting—is expected to anchor the story. With minimal romance or fantasy, the drama leans into grounded realism and powerful dialogue.
From IU’s ambition to Kim Go Eun’s relatability and Go Youn Jung’s emotional depth, April’s drama race is wide open—and all eyes are on who will win both ratings and buzz.
