Kim Ji Won is stepping into a darker role as a brilliant surgeon in SBS’ upcoming medical noir Doctor X.
The first teaser, released on September 7th, opens with her character, Gye Soo Jung, putting on a surgical mask and declaring, “I’ll operate.”
Dressed in a leather coat and carrying an unshakable confidence, Soo Jung is introduced by Jang Hee Sook (Lee Jeong Eun), the head of a doctor-for-hire agency, as “our agency’s ace surgeon Gye Soo Jung.”
Her confidence is made even clearer when she bluntly asks a patient, “Make a choice. Do you want to die a month from now or 100 years from now?”
After witnessing her extraordinary surgical skills, intern Park Tae Kyung (Kim Woo Seok) remarks, “She was like a god. Or maybe a monster.”
The teaser also introduces hospital director Boo Seung Kwon (Son Hyun Joo) and schemer Jang Hee Sook, hinting at the power struggles surrounding Soo Jung. It ends with her declaring, “I don’t fail.”
Premiering on October 9th, Doctor X follows Gye Soo Jung, a genius surgeon who takes on corruption and entrenched power in the medical world with nothing but her exceptional skills.
The drama is directed by Lee Jung Rim and written by Pyeon Sung Geun, with Kim Ji Won starring alongside Lee Jeong Eun, Son Hyun Joo and Kim Woo Seok.
Doctor X is a remake of the popular Japanese drama Doctor-X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon.
