Police have arrested the 30-year-old man who broke into Nana‘s home, and he has now revealed his motive for the crime.
The Uijeongbu District Court issued an arrest warrant for the suspect on charges of armed robbery resulting in injury on November 17th.
The suspect is accused of breaking into Nana’s luxury villa in Gyeonggi Province around 6 AM on the 15th. He reportedly climbed a ladder to the veranda and entered through an unlocked door. Once inside, he threatened Nana and her mother with a weapon, demanding money.
Nana and her mother discovered the intruder and physically restrained him.
During the confrontation, Nana’s mother was severely injured when she was choked by the suspect. Nana was also injured during the struggle to subdue him. According to their agency, both are in need of medical treatment and complete rest.
The charges against him were initially “attempted robbery,” but were elevated to “robbery resulting in injury” after Nana’s mother submitted her medical certificate. During police questioning, the suspect reportedly stated, “I didn’t know it was a celebrity’s house. I broke in because I was desperate for money.”
A police official also explained that “we are currently discussing with the prosecution to ensure the residents’ self-defense is recognized regarding the suspect’s injuries,” confirming that the robber was injured during the fight with Nana and her mother.
Nana’s residence is in a newly popular neighborhood, and the incident has raised concerns about lax security in high-end villas where many celebrities reside. The area is also known to be home to stars like Han So Hee, TWICE’s Momo, and J.Y. Park.
