Han Ga In recently opened up about her marriage to fellow actor Youn Jung Hoon, addressing years of persistent rumors surrounding their relationship. In the first video on her new YouTube channel “Han Ga In Is Free,” which offers a glimpse into her home, the actress candidly discussed her personal life, from the challenges of early marriage to the reasons behind delaying starting a family.
Han Ga In revealed that after tying the knot at the age of 24, she lived with her in-laws for five years while Youn Jung Hoon, then 28, completed his military service. “We got married in April, and by November, my husband was off to the military, so I lived with my in-laws for five years,” she shared, surprising viewers.
She also addressed the long-standing rumors about their relationship, particularly whispers of separation. “People used to say we weren’t getting along, that we were a couple just for show, or even that we were divorced or separated. I think it was because we didn’t have children for the first six or seven years,” she explained.
Han Ga In, who married Youn Jung Hoon in 2005, welcomed their first child in 2016. Reflecting on why they waited, she said, “I got married around the same time as my sister, and now her kid is a senior in high school. If I’d had a child right away, I don’t think I would’ve been able to raise them properly. I wouldn’t have been able to embrace them fully.”
At the age of 35, Han Ga In finally had her first child. “At the time, I thought it was really late, but now I realize it wasn’t that late after all,” she shared. The actress also recalled, “After about 10 years into marriage, my husband would say, ‘What should I say if people ask me when we’re having a baby?’ So we’d often plan our responses ahead of interviews.”
Addressing the rumors surrounding their decision to marry at such a young age, Han Ga In explained, “A lot of people had logical suspicions. They thought, ‘There’s no way they’d get married that fast unless it was a shotgun wedding.’ But honestly, I always dreamed of having a happy family, which is why I think I got married early.” She added with a laugh, “At the time, I thought of him as this dependable man, but he was really just a child.”
