Son Ye Jin revealed that she turned to husband Hyun Bin for help while preparing for her first historical drama in 24 years.
Speaking in an interview, Son reflected on balancing work and family life. “I think married couples often argue about how much time each person spends on work around home, but after we take care of our child together, we pretty much just collapse and fall asleep,” she said.
Son had previously shared another story about Hyun Bin while promoting her Netflix series The Scandal. In a video released by Netflix Korea on the 17th, she said she struggled with the distinctive speech patterns and expressions used in historical dramas.
“I asked my husband to practice with me,” Son said. “But he was reading the lines way too casually.”
She recalled telling him, “Put a little more emotion into it,” and “Read it properly,” before adding, “He was busy with his own work, but he helped me a lot.”
Son also spoke about parenting, saying without hesitation that raising a child is harder than working on a project.
She shared that when she tells her nearly 4-year-old son, “Mommy needs to lie down for a bit,” he responds, “Mom, pull yourself together.”
“I don’t know where he heard it, but it’s so cute watching his vocabulary grow,” she said.
The Scandal, which premiered on September 18th, has since reached No. 1 among series in South Korea and No. 3 on Netflix’s global non-English TV chart.
Son and Hyun Bin first worked together on the 2018 film The Negotiation and later reunited for Crash Landing on You in 2019. They married in 2022 and welcomed their son that November.
