Stray Kids will not submit their music for consideration at the 69th Annual Grammy Awards.

A representative from JYP Entertainment confirmed the news to The Daily Sports on October 2nd, saying, “Stray Kids did not submit for the Grammys.”

The decision comes shortly after all eight members of Stray Kids were named voting members of the Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammy Awards. As voting members, they are eligible to vote on Grammy nominees and winners. However, the group has decided not to submit its own music for this year’s awards.

Stray Kids had been considered a potential contender for a Grammy nomination. On October 1st, Billboard included the group among its predictions for nominees in the newly created Best Asian Pop Music Performance category, particularly following BTS’s decision not to submit.

BTS previously announced that they would not submit music for the 69th Grammy Awards either. In July, the members shared on their individual social media accounts that they hoped their music would be “heard and loved for what it is,” rather than being categorized by region or language.

The decisions by BTS and Stray Kids come after the Recording Academy introduced the Best Asian Pop Music Performance category for the 69th Grammys. The new category covers Asian pop music from countries including South Korea, Japan and China.

The category has sparked debate over whether Asian music should be separated based on region or language rather than genre.

Despite the controversy, the Recording Academy confirmed on October 1 that the Best Asian Pop Music Performance category will proceed as planned for the 69th Grammy Awards.

The 69th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 7th, 2027, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
