Wi Ha Jun successfully wrapped up his first leading role in a romantic drama with tvN’s The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, which concluded on the 30th. Playing the character Lee Jun Ho, Wi Ha Jun showcased his deep and nuanced emotional acting, creating perfect chemistry with his co-star Jung Ryeo Won, and portraying Jun Ho as a multi-faceted, complex character.
Reflecting on the significance of The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, Wi Ha Jun shared, “It’s a work that helped me graduate from my immature and lacking self to meet a more grown-up and mature ‘me.'”
When asked about his favorite scene, he picked the ending of episode 6. “The scene where Jun Ho confesses to Hye Jin in the teacher’s office stands out the most to me. I think it captures Jun Ho’s purest and most heartfelt emotions very well, which is why it’s my favorite.”
Wi Ha Jun also talked about the character’s development. “Rather than simply becoming an adult, I realized that the true way to love Hye Jin was through self-reflection and internal growth. The ending of episode 14 marks this pivotal point of change for Jun Ho.”
The Midnight Romance in Hagwon garnered a passionate response from drama fans, and one particular comment left a lasting impression on Wi Ha Jun. “A fan wrote that watching ‘The Midnight Romance in Hagwon’ made them want to earn a lot of money to distribute such a wonderful show for free to the world. It was incredibly moving and comforting, and it made me feel so happy and reassured that I had chosen to do this project.”
Looking ahead, Wi Ha Jun is set to embark on a fan meeting tour across five Asian cities, including Seoul, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia, in August and September. Additionally, fans can anticipate his return in the upcoming season of Netflix’s Squid Game Season 2, which promises to be another exciting chapter in his career.
