Hana Korea, starring Kim Min Ha, Kim Joo Ryoung and An Seo Hyun and directed by Danish filmmaker Frederik Sølberg, has confirmed its July 8th release and unveiled two first-look posters.

Inspired by a true story and co-produced by Korea and Denmark, Hana Korea follows Hye Sun, a North Korean defector trying to keep moving forward in an unfamiliar new life.

The two newly released posters immediately stand out with a bold contrast of red and blue. The cool blue “arrival” poster captures Hye Sun’s anxiety and fear after arriving in South Korea by plane. The tagline, “Starting over in a strange place,” paired with Hye Sun sitting alone, hints at the loneliness and harsh reality waiting for her.

The vivid red “beginning” poster shows Hye Sun looking downward, her expression filled with unease, tension and the weight of having to survive a new life.

Hana Korea previously drew attention after winning the Audience Award in the Flash Forward section at the 30th Busan International Film Festival. Written and directed by Frederik Sølberg, the film brings a fresh perspective to Hye Sun’s life and growth through the eyes of a Danish filmmaker.

Kim Min Ha, who rose to global recognition as young Sunja in Apple TV+’s Pachinko, leads the film as Hye Sun, carrying the story with restrained emotion and a deeply expressive gaze. Kim Joo Ryoung, who made a strong impression worldwide as Mi Nyeo in Netflix’s Squid Game Season 1, plays Sook Hee, a woman who becomes a key connection for those enduring unfamiliar lives.

An Seo Hyun, who starred as Mija in Bong Joon Ho’s Okja alongside Tilda Swinton and Steven Yeun, plays Bo Mi, a character with an innocent charm, further showing her growth as an actress.

Hana Korea opens in theaters on July 8th.
