Following its buzzworthy journey through international film festivals like the Jeonju International Film Festival, the London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, the Hamburg Film Festival, and the Rome Asian Film Festival, the movie Heavy Snow has confirmed its domestic release in the latter half of 2024.

Heavy Snow tells the poignant story of the relationship between a child star-turned-actress, Seol Yi (Han So Hee), and an aspiring actress, Su An (Han Hae In). Their story weaves through the complexities of friendship and love as they rely on, part from, and ultimately seek each other out again. After making a splash at last year’s Jeonju International Film Festival’s Korean competition section—selling out in just a minute—Heavy Snow has heightened audience expectations through its invitations from prestigious film festivals around the globe.

Han Hae In has been lauded as “a gem of the indie film scene” for her resonant and profound performances in films like Vestige and Naui pituseongi yeonin. In Heavy Snow, she brilliantly embodies Su An, an aspiring actress whose uncertain future is shaken by the tumultuous arrival of Seol Yi into her life. On the other hand, making her screen debut through Heavy Snow, Han So Hee takes on the role of Seol Yi, a former child star whose life, as cold as winter, warms up with special feelings towards Su An.

Directed and written by Yoon Su Ik, Heavy Snow captures a dreamlike sentiment that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality. Following its premiere at film festivals, it received acclaim for “its realistic fantasy, or rather a fantastical realism, portrayed through the imagery of fierce waves and snowfields, reminiscent of Jackson Pollock’s passionate abstract paintings. The fresh-faced appearance of Han So Hee during her lesser-known days is also fascinating,” as noted by Jeonju International Film Festival programmer Moon Seok.

The distribution of Heavy Snow is handled by Pansinema, known for bringing critically acclaimed and popular films like Minari, La La Land, and Begin Again to South Korean audiences.
