The fog of controversy thickens around actor Lee Sun Kyun as he’s officially charged with criminal violations of drug management laws. The actor finds himself in dire straits as recent testimonies pinpoint his frequent visits to an entertainment establishment, which acted as a haven for illicit drug use.
An insider from the questioned establishment told JTBC in an interview on the 23rd, “Usually, not just anyone is allowed in. What happens in the rooms, we don’t know. The situation could explode into something much larger.”
According to police, Lee has been criminally charged with illegal drug use, and his status has gone from a person of interest to a formal suspect.
The police also disclosed, “We arrested the 29-year-old proprietor, known as A, of a Gangnam-based entertainment establishment under the same allegations last weekend. Another female employee in her 20s from the same club has been charged without detention.” Lee faces accusations of consuming marijuana multiple times this year at various locations, including A’s residence in Seoul.
The investigation is still ongoing for five other individuals linked to the drug usage, among whom are an heir to a conglomerate family with a prior drug offense and an aspiring singer.
The police acquired intel last month that drugs were being circulated at a Gangnam establishment, leading them to the individuals involved. Plans are in the works to summon Lee and others as formal suspects to undergo drug testing and to delve deeper into the specifics of the allegations. Urine or hair tests will be employed to detect any residual drug components in their systems. The scope of the investigation is also widening to consider the use of multiple types of drugs beyond just marijuana.
