In response to this tragedy, several celebrities have stepped up to offer aid to the affected victims. Popular singer Lim Young Woong donated a generous 1 billion won (approximately 882,000 USD) to the Community Chest of Korea, collaborating with his fan community to support the recovery and provide relief items to the affected regions.
Kim Hye Soo contributed 100 million won (about 88,200 USD) through the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association, while Kim Woo Bin and Shin Min Ah donated 50 million won each (around 44,100 USD). Lee Chan Won also showed his heartfelt sympathy by donating 100 million won (about 88,200 USD) and wishing for a swift return to normalcy for those affected.
Other kind-hearted donors include Han Hyo Joo, who gave 50 million won (around 44,100 USD), Yim Si Wan with 30 million won (approximately 26,460 USD), and Park Na Rae with 10 million won (about 8,820 USD), all expressing their hopes for a speedy recovery for the flood-stricken residents.
Meanwhile, PSY found himself embroiled in controversy over a remark he left on Instagram amid the nationwide tragedy. After recently concluding his SUMMER SWAG 2023 concert, he expressed gratitude for the perfect weather in Yeosu. On the same day, there was a tragic incident where 15 vehicles were trapped in an underground tunnel in Oh Song, resulting in dozens of casualties. While PSY’s initial post caused some controversy, he later decided to delete it and donated 100 million won (approximately 88,200 USD). PSY wrote, “I want to offer deep comfort to all those affected by the flood and wish to help them return to their everyday lives as soon as possible.”
