Following news that Jung Kyung Ho and Choi Sooyoung have ended their 14-year relationship, fans are revisiting some of the actor’s most heartfelt comments about the Girls’ Generation star over the years.
The longtime couple’s agencies confirmed on June 9th that they had parted ways and decided to remain supportive colleagues.
In the wake of the news, many have pointed to Jung’s past interviews, where he frequently spoke about Sooyoung with admiration and affection.
In a 2022 interview for his movie Men of Plastic, Jung described Sooyoung as “the person I’ve talked to the most in my life” and said she was often the only person he confided in about his worries.
His most memorable comments came last year, when he reflected on the role she played in his life and career. “She is the center of my life outside of acting,” Jung said. “Sometimes I think I act because of her. I want to show her that I’m a good person and a good actor.”
He added, “What makes me happiest outside of acting is her happiness.”
The actor also credited her with helping shape the person he became.”I think I could have become a disappointing actor and not a very good person if it weren’t for this woman,” he said.
During another television appearance, Jung was advised not to talk too much about his girlfriend. Laughing off the suggestion, he replied, “Not talking about her would be strange. I don’t really have anything else to brag about.”
Even years earlier, Jung had openly shared stories about their relationship. During a 2017 variety show appearance, he recalled Sooyoung’s easygoing reaction to media attention surrounding their romance, while in a 2021 program, he was seen affectionately telling her over the phone, “I was watching the sunset and thought, ‘Choi Sooyoung would really love this.'”
While their long-running relationship has come to an end, both stars remain focused on their careers.
Jung is set to star in the upcoming ENA drama Seductive Romance (literal title), while Sooyoung is preparing for a stage production of The Merchant of Venice, which runs from July 8th through August 9th at Seoul’s National Theater of Korea.
