The acting works. The character does not.

That is the central irony of A Love Other Than Yours through Episode 6. Lee Mi Do (played by Ahn Eun Jin) has gone from a frustrating heroine to a partner who betrays her longtime boyfriend and then hides the truth. Ahn’s convincing performance only makes Mi Do’s selfishness harder to ignore.

In Episodes 5 and 6, Mi Do spends the night away after getting drunk, then tells Namgoong Ho (Seo Kang Jun), who spent the night worrying about her, that nothing happened. In reality, she kissed Han Tae Seung (Lee Joo Ahn), and Namgoong Ho later discovers both the betrayal and the lie through an audio recording.

Despite the dramatic turn threatening their 10-year relationship, ratings remained in the 2% range. The increasingly frustrating direction of its female lead may be doing little to bring new viewers in.

There are understandable reasons behind Mi Do’s instability. She is afraid of failing and wants to walk away from filmmaking, but struggles to admit that to Namgoong Ho, who believes in her talent. Tae Seung recognizes that insecurity and offers her an excuse to quit.

What the drama has not convincingly explained is how that frustration leads her to accept a kiss from another man. The emotional bridge between anxiety and attraction simply is not there.

Her guilt afterward does little to help. Mi Do cries over Namgoong Ho’s kindness and suffers beside him, yet still refuses to tell him what happened. By hiding the truth, she denies him the chance to decide what he wants from the relationship. What should read as remorse instead risks looking like self-pity.

Namgoong Ho, meanwhile, continues taking care of her, even considering a move to Paris with her future in mind. The stronger Ahn plays Mi Do’s guilt, the more obvious the imbalance becomes. The actress makes the emotion believable; the script has not given viewers enough reason to sympathize with it.

The drama has tried to balance this by showing how much Mi Do has done for Namgoong Ho over the years. She protected him from loan sharks as a child, helped clear his name when he was falsely accused and still steps in when he is threatened in the present.

But that history makes the betrayal harder, not easier, to understand. The deeper their shared past becomes, the more carefully the drama needs to explain why Mi Do would risk that trust. Instead, it relies on flashbacks of devotion and scenes of guilt.

For a romance, that is a difficult place to leave viewers. Characters can make serious mistakes, but the story needs to show why audiences should continue rooting for them.

Unless A Love Other Than Yours gives viewers a reason to care about her again, even those still watching may start looking for a love story somewhere else.
