Bongcheon-dong Ghost has officially begun production, with filming starting on October 5th.
Based on the popular webtoon of the same name by Horang, the film follows “Suyeon,” a woman who becomes possessed by a ghost and gets caught up in a centuries-old curse tied to the Bongcheon area of Seoul.
The story takes place in an apartment complex built on a valley in the Bongcheon neighborhood that was once used by shamans for rituals. Strange events begin to unfold in familiar places, including apartments, elevators and alleyways, as Suyeon finds herself facing a growing threat connected to the area’s dark past.
The original webtoon gained attention for its disturbing ghost imagery and creative use of animation and sound. The film expands on its urban legends, turning everyday spaces into unsettling settings filled with mystery and fear.
As Suyeon becomes increasingly affected by the ghost possessing her, she crosses paths with Taeo, a young man who can see spirits. Together, they begin searching for the truth behind the curse buried deep within Bongcheon-dong.
Arin, known for her roles in Girl’s World and Alchemy of Souls, will play Suyeon. She has also taken on a range of characters in projects including S LINE and My Girlfriend is the Man.
After completing her first day of filming, Arin said, “I want to prepare carefully for the rest of the shoot and make a film that combines a strong story with thrilling horror.”
Suyeon is an ordinary woman whose life is turned upside down after she becomes possessed by a ghost. As the curse takes hold, her everyday life slowly descends into terror, marking a new challenge for Arin as she portrays the character’s dramatic transformation.
Yoon Chan Young will star opposite Arin as Taeo, a young man with the ability to see ghosts. The actor has shown his range in projects including All of Us Are Dead, Delivery Man, High School Return Of A Gangster and Hyper Knife.
After his first day on set, Yoon Chan Young said, “I’m even more excited about the rest of the shoot and the finished film. I’ll do my best to portray a deeper Taeo each day.”
Taeo becomes involved in Suyeon’s strange experiences and begins investigating the curse that has haunted Bongcheon-dong for centuries. His ability to see spirits is expected to add another layer of tension as he gets closer to the truth.
The film is directed by Han Dong Seok, who previously drew attention with his occult horror film The Sin, which was selected for the competition section of the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.
