Kim Woo Bin is drawing praise for a sweet gesture toward a longtime fan who unexpectedly helped lead him to an advertising deal.
The fan recently shared a video of the actor personally giving her a gift, writing, “I received such a huge gift from Woo Bin thanks to how much everyone loved the story. Thank you again so much.”
She added that she had hesitated to post the video because she did not feel she had done anything deserving of a gift, but ultimately wanted to share how grateful she was for Kim’s thoughtfulness.
In the clip, Kim tells her, “I bought this for you. I ended up doing an ad thanks to you, so I was really grateful.”
“I kept it in my car because I didn’t know when I’d see you,” he continued. “I thought you’d feel awkward getting something by yourself, so I bought quite a few to give to the friends you’re with too.”
Kim then made a point of clarifying that the gifts were not promotional items.
“I didn’t get these for free. I bought them, so don’t misunderstand,” he said. “Thank you. I wanted to give this to you sooner, but I only just got to see you.”
The story dates back to an earlier fan signing event, when the same fan asked Kim to recommend a fragrance that suited her. Kim instead gave her the perfume he personally wore, and the interaction drew significant attention online.
After Kim later became an advertising model for the fragrance brand, he reportedly prepared the gifts with his own money as a way of thanking the fan who had helped bring attention to the scent in the first place.
Kim is next set to star in tvN sports drama GIFT, playing a former professional baseball pitching coach who gains a special ability after an accident and takes over a high school baseball team ranked last in the country. The series premieres December 5th.
