Kim Young Dae is drawing attention for his latest appearance during mandatory military service, with fans praising his short haircut and uniformed look.
Photos and videos of the actor at the 2026 Gyeryong Military Culture Festival recently spread across social media. Kim appeared at the event in uniform with a much shorter hairstyle than fans were used to seeing from his drama roles. The festival ran from October 1st through 5th in Gyeryong, South Chungcheong Province.
The pared-down look put greater focus on his features, while his tall frame and proportions also drew attention as he moved around the venue and appeared onstage.
Fans reacted enthusiastically, with comments including, “The military is his personal color,” “He looks even better after bulking up,” “That hairstyle suits him perfectly,” and “He might be the most handsome I’ve ever seen him.”

The renewed attention has also revived comparisons between Kim and Kang Dong Won. Early in his career, Kim was frequently described as a Kang Dong Won look-alike thanks to his height and sharply defined features.
Kim enlisted in the Army in April and later passed an audition for the military band in late June. He is currently serving with the band of the 12th Infantry Division.
Kim made his acting debut in 2017 and rose to wider recognition through dramas including Extraordinary You and The Penthouse. His later credits include Sh**ting Stars, No Gain No Love and Dear X.
