Kim Young Dae officially began his mandatory military service today, bidding a heartfelt farewell to fans while debuting a classic buzz cut.
He shared a photo of his new look on social media on April 20th, with the simple caption, “I will return safely.”

The 30-year-old actor has enlisted as an active-duty soldier and is expected to complete his service in October 2027. Before reporting for duty, Kim organized a thoughtful surprise for his long-time colleagues at Outer Universe. He hosted a private meal for the agency staff who have supported him over the last decade, choosing to spend his final moments of civilian life with the team that has been by his side since his debut.
This enlistment follows a brief period of public speculation regarding Kim’s private life. Dating rumors surfaced recently after he was spotted shopping at a drugstore in Seoul with former APRIL member Lee Naeun. However, Kim’s representatives were quick to clarify the situation, explaining that the two are simply close friends who have maintained a bond since starring together in the drama Extraordinary You.
Kim Young Dae first rose to prominence in 2017 through the web series The Omniscient Viewpoint on Crushes Season 3.5. He eventually became a household name with his breakout role in the massive hit franchise The Penthouse. Since then, he has built a diverse resume with leading roles in projects like No Gain No Love, The Forbidden Marriage and the recently released thriller Dear X.
