The revelation that Koo Kyo Hwan and director Yi Ok Seop have been legally married since 2022 is drawing mixed reactions online, with some questioning why the longtime couple kept their marital status private for nearly four years.
Koo’s agency, Namoo Actors, confirmed on October 1st that the pair registered their marriage in 2022 after dating for nine years. They did not hold a wedding ceremony and reportedly have no plans to do so.
While many fans congratulated the couple and argued that when they chose to disclose their marriage was entirely their decision, others were less receptive.
Some commenters questioned why Koo and Yi had openly acknowledged their relationship but never mentioned that they had married, with one asking whether Koo had been “pretending the last four years.”
The discussion intensified after fans resurfaced a 2023 appearance in which Yi described her relationship with Koo as a “10-year romance.” When asked how long they had been together, she replied that they had met exactly 10 years earlier, without mentioning that they had already registered their marriage the previous year.
Others defended the couple, saying a legal marriage did not obligate them to make a public announcement and that quietly becoming a family after years together felt consistent with the private way they had long handled their relationship.
Koo and Yi have long been both romantic and creative partners. In addition to A Dangerous Woman, they have collaborated on projects including Love Docu, Fly to the Sky and feature film Maggie, and they run the production team 2X9HD together.
