Seo Kang Joon is opening up about his dating life, revealing that he has not been in a relationship since entering his 30s.
The actor appeared on the September 6th episode of Jung Jae Hyung’s YouTube channel, “Fairy Jaehyung,” where he spoke about his career, relationships and what he looks for in a partner.
While discussing his drama The Third Charm, Jung asked whether Seo was the type to have unrequited crushes.
“I’ve had quite a lot of unrequited loves,” Seo admitted.
Jung jokingly protested, asking how someone with his looks could possibly end up in one-sided romances, but Seo said it had happened more often than people might expect.
“I had a lot of them when I was younger, and so many never worked out,” he said. “I’m not good at approaching people. And from the other person’s perspective, everyone has different tastes.”
When asked about his dream girl, Seo said he does not have a particular physical preference.
“When I talk to my friends about the people I’ve dated, they tell me, ‘I can’t figure out what your type is,'” he said. “Some were tall, some were short. Their jobs were all different, and they all looked and dressed differently too.”
The actor explained that emotional compatibility matters more to him than appearance.
“I fall hard for wise people,” he said. “Not someone who’s academically smart, like someone who went to Seoul National University. I mean someone who’s genuinely wise. That’s what really draws me in.”
Seo also addressed his own dating experience after Jung suggested that an actor who frequently takes on romance roles might draw from having dated a lot.
“I wouldn’t say I’ve dated a lot. I did try to date when I had the chance,” Seo said. “But since entering my 30s, especially after coming back from the military, I really haven’t had any dating experience. I even wondered what the problem was.”
Seo will next star in KBS’ new weekend drama A Love Other Than Yours, which premieres September 12th. The romance follows a couple who have been together for 10 years as they begin confronting unfamiliar feelings in what had once been a comfortable relationship.
Seo plays Nam Goong Ho, who has spent a decade envisioning a happy future with his longtime girlfriend Lee Mi Do, played by Ahn Eun Jin.
