Netflix’s hit medical drama The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call is reportedly moving forward with plans for a third season, with actress Ha Young expected to return as Cheon Jang Mi despite recent controversy surrounding her family history.
OSEN exclusively reported on August 27th that Netflix is preparing for Season 3 following the second season. Ha Young, who plays Cheon Jang Mi, is reportedly expected to remain with the series.
The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call premiered on January 24th, 2025, and quickly became a global hit. The series ranked No. 3 among Netflix’s non-English TV shows just three days after its release before reaching No. 1 the following week.
Fans have continued to call for another season. Lee Nak Jun, the original author of the web novel on which the series is based, recently revealed on KBS2’s Malja Show that pre-production for Season 2 had been completed and that the production team was currently scouting locations. Filming is expected to begin in October.
Ha Young rose to popularity after playing Cheon Jang Mi and has since appeared in projects including Boyfriend on Demand, Bloodhounds 2, Teach You a Lesson and Our Sticky Love.
Earlier this year, Ha Young came under fire after mentioning on a variety show that her family had been doctors for four generations. Online users later discovered that her great-grandfather, Ahn Sang Ho, was listed as a council member of the Daejeong Chinmokhoe in 1916, leading to accusations that she comes from a family with ties to Japanese colonial rule.
Her agency initially dismissed the allegations as “groundless.” However, the agency apologized the following day, admitting that it had responded without properly verifying the information.
Ha Young also issued an apology, saying that she learned about her great-grandfather’s activities during the Japanese colonial period while researching historical documents related to the controversy.
“I reflect on mentioning my family history so casually without properly understanding the painful history of our country during the Japanese colonial period,” she said.
Despite the controversy, Ha Young is currently filming the upcoming SBS drama The Long Shot Trial, which is expected to wrap production in September.
Reports recently claimed that Ha Young became overwhelmed and broke down in tears during filming, temporarily halting production. She was reportedly given about a week off by the production team to rest and recover.
When asked about Ha Young’s possible return for The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call Season 2, her agency said it was “difficult to confirm details regarding the filming schedule or casting.”
Netflix has also remained cautious about the reports. When asked about Season 3 and Ha Young’s casting, the streaming platform reiterated, “Preparations for the follow-up to The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call are still under discussion. It is difficult to confirm details regarding the start of filming or casting.”
If Ha Young does return, her casting could potentially spark further discussion given the controversy surrounding her family history.
