The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call is preparing to begin filming its second season in October, with no change announced to Ha Young’s involvement despite continued controversy over her great-grandfather’s pro-Japanese activities.
Lee Nak Jun, author of the web novel that inspired the Netflix series, shared the production update during an August 24th appearance on KBS’s Malja Show.
“Pre-production for Season 2 is finished, and we’re currently scouting locations,” Lee said. “I think we’ll probably start filming in October.”
The update has renewed attention on Ha Young, whose great-grandfather, physician Ahn Sang Ho, has come under scrutiny over documented pro-Japanese activities during the Japanese colonial period.
Ha Young‘s agency initially denied the allegations before reversing its position after historical records surfaced and issuing an apology. The actress later posted a handwritten apology, saying she had known only a limited version of her great-grandfather’s life and regretted speaking publicly about her family history without fully understanding its historical context.
The Trauma Code director Lee Do Yoon also drew attention after liking Ha Young’s apology post on social media. No plans for her departure from Season 2 have been announced, and production is currently moving ahead toward its expected October start.
During the same appearance, Lee also reflected on Ju Ji Hoon’s performance as Baek Kang Hyuk, saying the actor came remarkably close to the character he had imagined while writing the original story.
“Ju Ji Hoon is 188 centimeters tall,” Lee said. “I’m on the shorter side, so imagining someone about 20 centimeters taller than me was part of the fantasy. Then this character I had written as 188 centimeters tall appeared in real life, and I thought, ‘That’s the character I created.'”
The conversation later turned to another of Lee’s works, A.I. Doctor, and who he would most like to see in a future screen adaptation.
One audience member quickly called out, “Please pick Kim Seon Ho,” drawing laughter in the studio. Lee replied, “I like Kim Seon Ho too, but the age doesn’t fit,” adding, “The character in the story is young.”
He then named two actors he personally had in mind: “Personally, I like Lee Do Hyun and Song Kang.”
The comments were hypothetical rather than an official casting announcement, but offered a glimpse at Lee’s dream picks for the project.
